It is the purpose of REDDING MOUNTAIN BIKING to promote the sport
of Mountain Biking through an organizational establishment that will provide a
weekly group ride, varying in the degree of difficulties to encourage both
beginner and advanced riders out on the trails, along with establishing a base
of riders for the purpose of trail advocacy. We will seek to maintain existing
trails, and within legal limits establish new trail systems. REDDING
MOUNTAIN BIKING will never purposely make any rider feel inadequate
due to their abilities.
The REDDING MOUNTAIN BIKING club membership will be open to all
who apply and maintain their membership dues, and governmental positions
within the club will be open to any who qualify and are voted in.
We get together on Saturdays, pick a trail to
ride, take pictures, get to know the other
riders and leave no one behind! The
pictures are then posted on our website for
viewing.
(If you do not want your picture posted
please let us know.)
Although as with anything, there are some riders who are faster than others. We help
encourage everyone to improve, however, no one is looked down upon for being a little
slower. We encourage new riders on several rides each month and while all trails are not
suitable for all abilities we do our best to accomodate everyone.
Most of our rides are right here in Shasta County at either Shasta or Whiskeytown lake,
however we sometimes travel to nearby Mount Shasta, Weaverville and Downieville for
either day or weekend trips.
We are also very concerned with the reputation of Mountain Bikers in this area as well as the
condition of our trails. We are an IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) club
and we sponsor "The Chimney", "The Ice Box", and "The Recliner", "The Taco Stand" and
"The Couch" and "Mule Mountain" trails as part of the USFS's Adopt a trail program.
We do require helmets on all of our rides, for your safety and we ask anyone who rides with us to respect
the trails, other trail users and each other. Attitudes that make someone else feel uncomfortable due to
their ability will not be tolerated.
To be put on our ride list,
We try to cater to everyone, both young and old, beginner and advanced. We try to label our
rides with what type of ride it will be, either Beginner, Intermediate, Intermediate Advanced, or
Advanced.
Beginner: Brand new to the sport, should be familiar with basic riding principals, (stopping,
shifting,) and be able to complete up to 5 miles of off road riding.
Intermediate: Riders should be able to complete 10 miles of off road riding, mild climbing, and
have a good sense of balance and controlling speed on decents.
Intermediate Advanced: For these rides, you should be capable of riding 15+ miles of rugged
terrain, be able to climb consistently for 20+ miles, and be very comfortable on technically
difficult trails.
Advanced: Take anything that we can throw at you and not whine, snivel, complain, or cry!
(Seriously, these rides will involve a lot of climbing, 20+ miles, and very difficult terrain.)
RMB is also an active member of the IMBA
(International Mountain Biking Association), a sponsor
of five trails in the Whiskeytown area, and now
maintaining the trail that RMB helped to create and
bring to being, the Clikapudi loop.
Remember, Whiskeytown requires a
park pass, available at the visitors
center. $5 per day, of $25 per year.
