RMB in 2006!!
RMB in 2006!!
A look at some of the things RMB has done to
improve mountain biking and mountain biking
relations in the north state in 2006.
We have had consistant rides
every week to get people out on
their bikes. We have always
encouraged newer riders to this
sport, and have grown the
number of riders in this area
tremendously. This is beneficial
because the more riders we
have, the more money the local
biking economy receives. (bike
shops, races, biking sponsored
charities)
Club Rides!
Races!
RMB has been involved
with the local races since
its inception. We have
encouraged beginners to
get into racing, and have
had a blast with the team
races that they have
hosted in this area. I do
not have room to list all
the 1st, 2nd 3rd finishes
from all RMB members!!!
ï¿¿We have been
instrumental in bringing
two brand new venues to
the area!
Trail Work!
RMB sponsors most of the trails at Whiskeytown Lake, and are in the process of adopting Clikapudi,
and the new Clikapudi RMB extension trail. We always leave the trail in better shape than we found it,
clearing out all downed trees, repairing damage from other trail users, picking up trash, and developing
relationships with all the Governmental agencies. Now that RMB has taken over the clean up on the
trails at Whiskeytown, very seldom do other trail users have to dismount, climb over, or go around
objects that formerly had to wait for NPS spring trail crews to clean.
The IMBA's Trail Care Crew had a class that drew 46 people, 9 of them federal
employees, 30 people spent 3 hours each on the Chimney reroute project. IMBA states
volunteer hours are worth $17 an hour each, so figure we donated over $1,500 of effort
in one day to Whiskeytown National Park!
RMB in the community (Charitable giving)
RMB member Carl Drake put a team together for the Relay for Life Cancer
walk. 23 team members gathered $8,800 in donations! 10th place overall, out
of over 111 teams!
TAKE A KID MOUNTAIN BIKING DAY!
This is a day that Congress has set aside to promote getting kids back into a healthier
lifestyle, through Mountain Biking. The IMBA held a "contest" for the day, encouraging
local bike clubs to get kids out on bikes. Though not even recognized for our efforts, we
blew the world away with our results! (last year we were #1 in the world!)
We gave out 31 brand new high quality mountain bikes, and had over 70 participants in this
annual event!
New RMB Clikapudi Extension Trail!!!!
Approximately 5 years ago, I was on a tour of Clikapudi lead by the United States Forest Service. It was
mentioned on this hike that a certain area would be good for a new trail for mountain bikes. I was out
there literally the very next day marking it. I had no idea it would take so long to get final approval! I
ended up having to mark the trail an additional 3 times due to my marking being destroyed by fire, sun,
and loss of GPS files. Well, I am happy to say that ground has been broken and the entire tread has been
placed on this Mountain Biking specific trail! This should be done by late spring, and it will be one of the
best rides in Shasta County! RMB will be adopting it, and doing the finish work on this. Join us in this
great project!

RMB is proud to say that we are continually
working on relations with other trail users,
and how we can all use these awesome trails
without the bickering and closures other areas
have. RMB is committed to educating riders
about how to approach equestrians, hikers,
etc. and when we ride with a large group, we
always have someone in the lead watching for
upcoming trail users. RMB has come a long
way, and even if you do not ride with us,
consider supporting us as we continue to help
the trail systems in the north valley become
some of the best trails around.
Happy 2007!!!
